There are SO many people out there, not just in Reno, who are living and just “dealing” with pain and limited movement. We can go months (and even years) living with it, but eventually it gets to the point where it becomes debilitating enough to the point where it’s affecting our ability to do the things we love.
Physical Therapy is a profession where we figure out what’s going on, get to the root cause of the problem, and then give people the tools and knowledge to ditch their pain and get back to doing the things they love!
Pain can be complicated and there are many reasons as to why we have it. Sometimes searching the internet not only leaves you exhausted, but even anxious and frustrated since there are so many things that can be contributing to it!
This is where Physical Therapy really comes into play. As far as medical providers go, there is no one who has the same skill with assessing movement, posture, body mechanics, range of motion, and strength. Physical Therapy is THE medical profession to go to, in order to fix your movement and function.
WHO BENEFITS FROM RENO PHYSICAL THERAPY?
Many people can benefit from Physical Therapy, especially active individuals. It can be someone coming off a shoulder surgery, who’s experiencing knee pain, or just wants to be proactive and take charge of their health before an injury occurs!
However, you don’t have to be an athlete to benefit from Physical Therapy. There are a lot of people experiencing neck pain at their desk job or shoulder pain from cutting hair all day. Sometimes, the type of career we have can affect how our bodies feel.
Here at Clinch Performance and Recovery, getting people back to doing what they love is SERIOUS business.
This is not Physical Therapy where you’re going to be passed off to an assistant. This is one-on-one, individualized programming, 100% aimed at getting you back to crushing your goals.
Read on to see why Physical Therapy is so important, how it will benefit you, and how Clinch Performance and Recovery is different from the typical Reno Physical Therapy practice. If you’re an active person and don’t want to be held back from doing the things you do because of an injury, pain, stiffness, or surgery, then read on. This is for YOU.
WHAT IS PHYSICAL THERAPY, AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
A Physical Therapist is an expert on the body: The anatomy, how it moves, and how to develop a plan of care so people can get healthy and back to doing the active things they love.
The general understanding is that people only go to Physical Therapy when their doctor tells them to. Although this is an option, it is not the ONLY option and there are better ways of going about this.
The unfortunate thing about having to go through your doctor is that more time goes by before you can get in to see a Physical Therapist. That means more time spent in pain, injured, and unable to do the active things you love before getting help.
Our Reno Physical Therapy clinic is different! Because we are a direct-pay clinic, that means that you don’t need to spend the time and energy to go and see a doctor before you can get help, nor do you have to deal with the insurance company hassle. This means you get seen, and get better, sooner.
If you are experiencing anything such as a knee injury during jiu jitsu, hamstring pain while running, or shoulder pain during crossfit, you can get on the schedule ASAP to get the help you need.
Speaking of which, check out this feedback from some of Clinch Performance and Recovery's patients!
THE CLINCH PHILOSOPHY:
Because activity is taken so seriously here, we stand by the Clinch Philosophy:
Clinch Performance and Recovery is not a clinic where your doctor will tell you to "quit doing what you love," or "find something else." Our goal is to keep you doing what you love for as long as possible. We will do everything we can to figure out the root cause of your issue so that we can take actionable steps to fix it, get you feeling better, and get you back to your passions as soon as possible.
Clinch Performance and Recovery is not the “mill” Physical Therapy office where you’re given a heat pack for 20 minutes, handed off to an assistant, and then only spend 10 minutes with your Physical Therapist.
No.
Here, you will have a full hour of one-on-one time with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. This allows us to make sure that the entire program is individualized to you, starting from a thorough evaluation, all the way through your entire plan of care. This allows us to stay on the same page and ensure we are making as much progress as quickly as possible. Your body is different from everyone else’s, so why should the plan be the same?
We do this with three steps:
Get you out of pain as quickly as possible.
Figure out the root cause as to why you’re in pain.
Give you the tools and a plan to get you stronger so that it doesn’t keep on coming back.
Gone are the days of “running is bad for your knees.” If you’re a runner, let’s get you back to running.
If you love playing with your kids, let’s get your back stronger so you can lift him up from the ground and wrestle.
If you love crossfit, let's heal up your shoulder so you can compete.
If you’re looking for Reno Physical Therapy, then it probably means you’re an active person who is motivated to get your issues taken care of. Investing in your health is paramount to having an enjoyable, and fulfilling life, and this why Physical Therapy is so important. Clinch Performance and Recovery is here to help.
WHAT DOES A PHYSICAL THERAPIST DO?
A Physical Therapist (or PT, for short), is someone who evaluates why you’re having pain or why your body is having difficulty moving. A Physical Therapist is the expert on the human body and the way it moves. With this in mind, the Physical Therapist will figure out a way to get you stronger, moving better, and feeling better so you can continue doing the things you love.
HOW DOES A PHYSICAL THERAPIST DO IT?
It all starts with an individualized, thorough evaluation. This step is CRUCIAL. This is where a Physical Therapist figures out the root cause of your symptoms.
Clinch Performance and Recovery takes the evaluation very seriously. Not only does it gives us the most information on WHY the issue is happening, but it allows us to develop an actionable plan to get you to where you want to be (i.e. What your goals are). This is not a cookie-cutter approach. An eval for a crossfitter with shoulder pain will look much different from a runner with Achilles pain.
The goal portion of the evaluation is also very important, for it gives us a direction on where we need to go. Remember, our philosophy is that we will do everything we can. This is something Clinch Performance and Recovery stands by. For example, if a crossfitter with shoulder pain wants to feel better so he can compete, then the root problem is determined in the evaluation followed by a plan to get him to his goal of competing without his shoulder issue.
For the most part, Physical Therapists are known for prescribing exercise.
Exercise definitely has it’s place, but did you know that Physical Therapists can also do manual therapy and dry needling? These are two of the things that Clinch Performance and Recovery is renown for.
Manual therapy is hands-on work performed by a Physical Therapist. Now, this is different from massage. Here at Clinch, the Physical Therapist can perform techniques such as muscle energy, strain-counterstrain, trigger point release, and myofascial release. Clinch has also integrated myofascial decompression into its skillset which utilizes cups in conjunction with therapeutic exercises.
Dry needling is a technique that uses very thin, microfilament needles into muscles to help muscle tightness, pain, headaches, and improve healing of muscles and tendons.
This is not something you come out of Physical Therapist school with. You need to take extra coursework to get certified in dry needling and here at Clinch, your Physical Therapist has done this.
Both manual therapy and dry needling are great in conjunction with an individualized mobility and exercise program. This is where Clinch Performance and Recovery stands out: Every session is one-on-one for a full hour with a skilled, Physical Therapist. This means that you will be on the same page the entire time to ensure better, and faster, results. We take a whole-body approach to make you better all around so that you will be more prepared for your sport or hobby that you love.
THE PROS AND CONS OF PHYSICAL THERAPY
Nothing is perfect, and Physical Therapy is no exception to that.
So what are some of the drawbacks of Physical Therapy?
Well, for one, most Physical Therapy clinics out there are in-network, meaning that they are insurance-based. This may seem good on the surface, but unfortunately what ends up happening is the Physical Therapist is forced to see more patients per hour. This means that while you, the patient, are at the clinic, the Physical Therapist is also managing 2, 3, 4… additional patients at the same time! As a result, you only get to spend 10-15 minutes with the Physical Therapist. The rest of your time is spent by yourself doing your exercise, or with an aid who is not a qualified and licensed Physical Therapist.
What ends up happening is that the quality of care goes down, meaning more office visits and more time before you start to feel better.
Most of the time this isn’t the Physical Therapist’s fault, it’s just the nature of an in-network, insurance-based clinic.
Another thing that happens is that some clinics are still using modalities that don’t really work. Basically for every patient, they get put on electrical stimulation and a hot pack. Although this may feel good, it is doing nothing for getting to the root cause of why you’re having to go to Physical Therapy in the first place.
I repeat: Here at Clinch Performance and Recovery, our goal is to get you back to feeling better and the things you love AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. This means less time spent in doctor’s visits, less time traveling to the office, and less time before you can get back to being active without pain.
Remember our philosophy: That we will do everything we can to get you back in action, out of pain, and being active as soon as possible. Being and staying active is a HUGE priority of Clinch Performance and Recovery, which is why I stand by that philosophy.
